Unpredictable Jesus: The Fallacy of Momentum

As children of God, we do not adhere to a schedule, but abide in God's word fulfilling his plan for our lives. Read on and redefine what “gaining traction” means in your life.

It's been a while. As you know, I live my life based on God's direction, so my extended break should have come as no surprise. I've always been this way. When I was younger, and inexperienced, I had a hard time accepting the criticism I received because of my "spontaneity".

The simple explanation for my behavior is that I am a child of God, and I do God's Work.

If you are reading this chances are great you suffer from a mental illness that keeps you from adhering to a "normal" schedule. This article is about the Fallacy of Momentum and why it doesn't apply to your life should you choose to walk in Christ.

What is God's Work?

God's work usually begins with a calling, hunch, inkling, or nudge in a certain direction. When we are called by God to take on a task or redirect your efforts it often feels like a bright idea you'd love someone else to do. When imagining the details of the calling it will feel like an inconvenience or a complete burden, but it will always seem like a great idea.

In another time, under different circumstances, if you were a different person you would love to participate in this vision, just not today. The truth is should you choose to take on God's work you will be transported to a different time, your circumstances will improve, and you will become the person you think is appropriate for this new vision.

As you will see God's Work is the ultimate Catch 22.

Apart from Me

When we are asked to change course, or reevaluate our circumstances, it is because whatever we are doing is not in alignment with the will of God. To the uninitiated, this principle may seem empty, but scripture clearly states in John 15:5

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing."

This is the moment our momentum is challenged.

We are approaching a fork in the road.

There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death. - Proverbs 14:12

Depending on how in tune you are, God is subtly or not so subtly putting you on notice. The power of the Holy Spirit will no longer be over you should you continue on the path you are on. Through personal experience I can tell you, God does not disrupt a good thing. If it seems like he is you can be sure the expiration date is approaching, and he is preparing you for a new season or venture. The moment you begin to receive signs of something new your something old is deteriorating.

⚠️A word of caution before we continue⚠️

Please test all signs against the word of God found in the Bible. His promptings cannot be justified by a loose interpretation of scripture.

Do not quench the Spirit. Do not treat prophecies with contempt but test them all; hold on to what is good, reject every kind of evil. - 1 Thessalonians 5:19-22

The way I see it:

  • Do not put out your own fire or power.

  • Don't forfeit God's momentum because of stubbornness and because it disrupts your plans.

  • Cross reference all "hunches" with the word of God.

  • Use discernment, and move forward with what is right in faith.

⚠️ If you fail to heed these warnings your critics will meet you on the other side with a variation of this backhanded compliment⚠️

Saved By Faith Not Works

Every prophetic word from God is presented with love and kindness for your own good. In order to receive his grace we have to have been open to it in the first place. It only takes faith the size of a mustard seed to move mountains.

Another word for faith is vision - it is the thing that dreams are made of.

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Hebrew 11:1

Now, as you dust yourself off and muster up the faith to move in the direction you are called in (no matter how it may seem to others) keep in mind, nothing is for nothing - even a deal made with God himself (contemplate Revelations 5: 9-10).

Our relationship with God is a perfect circle of trust, and once you break the chain you fall out of favor with him.

1. You have received your vision and been extended grace through your faith.

2. You understand God is helping you so you can help others (Proverbs 21:31).

3. Jeremiah 29:11-13 says:

" For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord. "Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future, then you will call on me and pray to me, and I will listen to you (relationship). You will seek me and find me when you seek with all your heart".

4. 🔄Now lets bring this full circle🔄:

Trust in the Lord, and do good dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture Take delight in the Lord (relationship), and he will give you the desires of your heart.

So far we have discovered what scripture has to say about being in right relationship with God. We understand there is a flow to this thing without a doubt. That it isn't about dependence or co-dependence, but interdependence. Either you're in or out (James 1:8 NIV). He is not looking for lukewarm believers (Revelation 3:16).

We are said to remain in him and dwell in him. Both words, remain and dwell, do not require movement. Therefore, they can never gain or lose momentum.

Faith is Fixed | Abide in Him

I sincerely hope I have not overwhelmed you with scripture today because my intention is to encourage your walk with Jesus. We know a miracle can occur in an instant if we do the will of God and abide in him he will give us the desires of our hearts.

Abide is an action word.

Abide means to act in accordance to a rule or law. There is no telling where the author, perfecter, and finisher (Jesus) of our faith will lead us, but I can guarantee you he is not slowing down as it concerns your ultimate fulfillment. It just doesn't work that way.

Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. - Hebrews 12:12

With that said, I am back for now in accordance with God's request of me. Please check in daily for inspiration, and tips on how take your life back for good. Let's make it God filled!
